How to Earn Metalback with the Kinesis Card: A Step-by-Step Guide
The Kinesis Card lets you earn Metalback on eligible purchases. That’s a cashback-style reward paid in allocated gold (KAU) instead of points or regular currency. The gold is credited straight to your Kinesis account.
1. Open a Kinesis account
Create a free account on the Kinesis Money platform. You’ll enter your personal details and set up login credentials during registration.
2. Complete identity verification (KYC)
You have to finish the mandatory KYC process before you can apply for the card. It usually means uploading a government-issued identity document, taking a selfie or facial verification, and providing proof of address where required. Once the account is verified you get access to the platform’s financial services, including the Kinesis Card where it’s available in your jurisdiction.
3. Order and activate the card
From inside your Kinesis account, apply for a Kinesis Card. Depending on your location you may be able to request a virtual card for online purchases, a physical card for in-store use, contactless payments and ATM access, or both. When the card arrives, activate it through the dashboard or mobile app. For a physical card you’ll also set a PIN.
4. Fund the account
The card needs sufficient funds in the Kinesis account before you can use it. You can add money by depositing fiat currency, depositing supported cryptocurrencies, receiving transfers from another Kinesis user, or holding/purchasing KAU (allocated gold) or KAG (allocated silver).
5. Use the card for eligible purchases
Pay with the Kinesis Card wherever the supported payment network is accepted. That covers retail stores, supermarkets and restaurants, online merchants, travel bookings, and contactless terminals. It works like a normal debit card and the purchase amount comes out of your available account balance.
6. Qualifying for Metalback
Eligible purchases automatically qualify for the Metalback programme. Transactions that are generally excluded include ATM withdrawals, balance transfers, cash-equivalent transactions, and other merchant categories listed in the programme’s terms and conditions. Always check the latest Kinesis Metalback terms for the current list of what counts and what doesn’t.
7. Receiving the reward
Once the transaction has settled, the Metalback amount is credited directly to your Kinesis account. Rewards are paid in allocated gold (KAU) rather than loyalty points or fiat cashback, so each reward represents ownership of physical allocated gold held within the Kinesis Monetary System. The percentage earned depends on the programme terms and any promotional offers in effect at the time of the purchase.
8. Tracking rewards
You can monitor Metalback activity inside your Kinesis account. The dashboard shows rewards earned, transaction history, current KAU balance, and overall account balances. That gives a record of both spending and the gold accumulated through the programme.
9. Managing the gold
Once credited, the rewards become part of your KAU balance. From there you can keep accumulating it, spend the KAU with the Kinesis Card, exchange it for other supported assets on the Kinesis Exchange, transfer it to another Kinesis user, or redeem it for physical gold subject to the platform’s minimum redemption requirements and applicable fees.
Important notes
- Metalback rewards are paid in allocated gold (KAU), not fiat currency or loyalty points.
- Eligible purchases earn rewards automatically — no separate enrolment is needed.
- The reward percentage can vary with the programme’s terms and any promotional campaigns.
- Because the rewards are denominated in gold, their value can rise or fall with the gold price rather than staying fixed like ordinary cashback.
