Metalback – FAQ

What Is Metalback?

Metalback is Kinesis’ version of a cashback program. Instead of receiving cash rewards for purchases, users accumulate allocated gold. The program essentially allows regular online shopping to function as a method of gradual gold accumulation.

Why is it called metalback instead of goldback?

Because someone trademarked goldback in 1997 and has been sitting on it like a dragon hoarding treasure, waiting for this exact moment. Don’t cite me as a source.

How Does Metalback Work?

The Metalback hub on the Kinesis platform provides access to nearly six thousand global brands. Users shop through the hub as they would directly on a retailer’s website, using standard payment methods, and earn Metalback rewards on their purchases.

What Are the Key Features?

Users can earn up to ten percent of their purchase value back in allocated gold, credited directly to their Kinesis account. The program covers thousands of brands worldwide, and purchases can be completed using gold, silver, or traditional payment methods like a debit card in the user’s local currency.

How Do You Earn Metalback?

The process involves three steps. First, visit the Metalback hub to browse merchants and select one offering up to ten percent back. Second, complete the purchase on the retailer’s website using any supported payment method. Enabling browser cookies is recommended so the system can track the transaction and calculate rewards accurately. Third, once the transaction is verified, rewards are deposited into the Kinesis account within fourteen to one hundred and fifty days, depending on the retailer’s processing policies. A confirmation email is sent when the transaction is finalised.

Why Does It Take Up to 150 Days?

The extended timeframe reflects the need for thorough verification. This period allows Kinesis to confirm transaction legitimacy, which is particularly important for purchases prone to cancellations or changes, such as flight bookings or luxury items like jewellery. High-value categories carry a greater risk of refunds or disputes, and without proper verification, rewards could be issued for transactions that are later reversed. The timeframe also serves as a fraud prevention measure, protecting both users and merchants by ensuring rewards are granted only after payments are finalised and the risk of disputes has diminished. This approach helps preserve the integrity of the program, safeguards merchants from fraudulent claims, and ensures users receive accurate rewards.

What Is Kinesis’ Contribution to the Program?

Kinesis adds an amount equal to the Metalback earned by users directly to the Master Fee Pool. For instance, if a user earns a ten percent Metalback reward, Kinesis matches that by contributing another ten percent to the pool. This increases system-wide yields and supports overall velocity.

How Much Can Be Earned?

The program offers up to ten percent back on purchases. Some brands occasionally offer higher rates, reaching up to twenty-five percent on certain products and services. Since rewards are paid in gold, any appreciation in the gold price would increase the value of earnings when measured in local currency. All gold earned through Metalback also contributes to the Holder’s Yield.

Who Qualifies for Metalback?

Accounts must be verified through the Know Your Customer process to participate.

Is Metalback Available on Mobile?

Currently, Metalback is accessible only through the desktop platform. Plans to make it available via the mobile app are in development.

What Payment Methods Are Accepted?

Payment options depend on the retailer. Users can pay with gold and silver through the Kinesis card, spend in local currency with a debit card, or choose any other online payment method the retailer supports.

How Many Retailers Participate?

The program includes nearly six thousand major retailers worldwide, covering categories such as travel, luxury goods, electronics, clothing, fashion, business services, insurance, sport, and wellbeing.

Does Metalback Contribute to Other Yields?

Yes. All gold received as Metalback contributes to the Holder’s Yield. Additionally, when Metalback purchases are made with the Kinesis card, users earn a percentage back as part of the Velocity Yield, which also contributes to the Holder’s Yield. Referrers and partners earn a share of yields when their network makes purchases through the Metalback hub. Kinesis also matches each percentage earned on Metalback purchases with a contribution to the master fee pool, which increases system velocity and boosts yields for all participants.

How and When Is Metalback Paid?

Rewards arrive within fourteen to one hundred and fifty days from the transaction verification date, depending on individual store policies. The value is calculated based on the US Dollar equivalent of gold at the time of purchase. Kinesis notifies users via email about progress, and once the transaction is verified, rewards are credited in gold to the account.

Are There Any Costs?

No additional fees are associated with participating in Metalback.

Where Is Metalback Available?

The program is accessible in most regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia and Oceania.

Can Metalback Be Earned in Unsupported Countries?

Yes. As long as the account is fully KYC-verified, users can earn Metalback for purchases made with supported retailers that ship to their location. This makes the program accessible for international purchases from virtually anywhere.
